The Skilled Nominated visa subclass 190 is a pathway to permanent residency in Australia. It allows you to live and work in Australia with nomination from state or territory government. This visa mirrors the Skilled Independent visa subclass 189 but for a few minor differences. It is also points tested and while the minimum points requirement is 65, many skilled migrants prepare for more points to increase likelihood of invitation in competitive occupations.

Requirement Criteria
Occupation Must be on the relevant skilled occupation list.
Skills Assessment Positive assessment from the relevant authority.
Points Test Minimum of 65 points.
State/Territory Nomination You must have been nominated by a state or territory, or sponsored by an eligible family member.
Age Under 45 at the time of invitation.
English Language Competent is the minimum level, however points are only awarded for Proficient and above.
Invitation Expression of Interest (EOI) required for state or territory nominations; only invited applicants may apply.

Applying for a 190 visa is a staged process:

Confirm your occupation is on the relevant skilled occupation list and calculate your points score.

Obtain your Skills Assessment from the relevant authority.

Be nominated by your chosen state of territory and submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect.

From the date of invitation, you have 60 days to lodge the visa with all necessary supporting documents.

State Availability: States and territories will close applications when they have exhausted places within their migration program for the year. They re-open when places are available again.

This exception applies to skills assessments only, English test results must be valid at the time of invitation.
